Seventy persons were drowned today by floods in tile city of Kingston and the Jamaican parishes of St. Thomas, St. Catherine and St. Mary following a storm. The damage is esti. mated at 2,060,000 dollars. Bridges and buildings were swept away and banana plantations wore levelled. The storm lasted six hours and is described as the worst m 80 years. The water rose as high as six feet in the streets and rushed through dwellings. washing away many occupants who were trapped in them.
