I - . \\ est anti a very pleasant tune was spent with dancing games, community singing and cards. A stnt..e waltz was won by _\tr uuv Corhett and Miss Una West and a Monte Carlo fox-trot by Mr Martin Deegan and Miss Una 'West. Iho dance music was supplied by Masses Marie Cave, Margaret J.illey ‘and Una West. The judges for the novelty dances wore Mr Hardy Benton anil Miss A. Deegan. A competition was won by Mr Laurie West. The aecompanisle for the community singing was Miss Una West.

Prior to the supper interval Air Jas. Frevne expressed pleasure in asking the guest of the evening to accept a- varied assortment of useful gifts, and referred to the prowess of Mr Laurie West as a senior football player, and his popularity a.s a tennis player, together with his willingness to help at all timeij with every good cause.

Air A. T. West handed to his son the time-honoured “key of the door,” which had been autographed by everyone present at the party. The toast to tile health of the guest was accorded musical honours.

Air Freyne also thanked Air and Alls West for the use of their home for such a pleasant evening. Air Laurie West suitably replied, thanking all for the handsome g fts and for the honour they had accorded him.

Mr A. T. West also expressed thanks and commended the organisation of the party, which had been such a complete surprise. A dainty supper was provided. The evening’s gaieties concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Sync,” all forming a large ring with Mr and Airs West and family in the middle. DOUGLAS SOCIAL CREDIT On Saturday evening there was a large attendance to hear an address by Air Davie on the Douglas Social Credit Proposals, the meeting being inaugurated by the local branch of the Farmers’ Union. Air A. AY. King presided and introduced the speaker, who received an excellent hearing with his able and lucid address. Following the address a. large number of questions were answered, and on the motion of Air. A. C. Johnstone the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

Airs. Benton asked if the lecturer could approach the AV.D. branches to explain to them the Douglas Social Credit proposals, as now more than ever women were becoming keenly interested in world welfare and in monetary reform. She also stated that branches were now gathering statistics of the. number of women and children who were working on farms without pay. A study group was formed a.s a branch to study the Douglas scheme. Mr. AY. J. Bradford was elected secretary. PAST UI IE AIA XA G EAI ENT. On Tuesday evening there was a good attendance of farmers to hear a- lecture by Air. Hume on management of pastures, etc. Mr. King occupied the chair and introduced the speaker. G ENEBA L AND PER SON AI,. Last Friday evening there was again n large attendance at the fortnightly series of old-time dances and reels. Visitors were present from many parts. The dance music was supplied by Messrs T. Austin and L. Purvis (aceordeons) and Air. AJat. Langlands (pipes). Air. J. C. Duff carried out the duties of ALC. BASKETBALL. On Wednesday afternoon a basketball match wins played between Auroa and Mangatoki girls at Auroa. The visiting team won by 8 to 7. Afternoon tea. was provided. PERSONAL. Aliss Marie Cave spent tho weekend as the guest of Aliss A. Deegan. Airs. Rowlands senr., of Sheet Road, is an inmate of lvaponga hospital.
