RADIO STATION CLOSURE

TEMPORARY PERMIT REFUSED. REQUEST TO -MINISTER. (by Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 9. A request for the continuation of the transmitting licence of the B class radio station IZR until an inquiry has been held into the circumstances which led to the closing of the station on Thursday evening has been refused by the Postmaster-General, the Hon. A. Hamilton. A telegram received from the Minister to-day by Lewis Eady, Ltd., proprietors of the station, said the information which led to the action taken by him was so serious i hat he regretted it was impossible for b m to grant the request. A letter. sent to the Minister by the firm to-night set out the facts of the case as viewed by the station and asked tiiat immediate consideration be given to the original request to allow the transmission to bo resumed pending a thorough and important avestigation of all matters involving in the complaint. The letter requesting the cessation of transmission was from the Post and Telegraph Department at Auckland. It read: “I am directed by my head office to inform you that in s r ew of your disregard of the radio regulations and the conditions under which sponsored programmes may be transmitted, and of warnings issued from time to time in connection with such failures, the Minister has now decided to suspend the license of IZR-. It is therefore requested that transmission cease forthwith.”
