REMOVAL OF STAINS. Scorch marks may be removed by cutting an onion in half and rubbing the scorched part with it. The juice of the onion is an excellent remedy, and the marks will soon disappear, ’states a correspondent. Of course, this only applies to slight scorch marks; things that have been badly burnt will never come really nice again.
Inkstains on silver can be removed •by rubbing the stains with a mixture /of whiting and sweet oil, made into a 'thin paste. Leave this on for twentyfour hours, and afterwards wash and flry the silver carefully, then polish in ■ the usual wav.
When a coffee stain is discovered on a handkerchief, even though it may have been there for some time, it ean still lie removed successfully with glycerine. Apply the glycerine liberally to the stained part and leave it to soak in for about an hour. Finally, wash the handkerchief with soap and water.
Coffee stains may be removed from table linen in the same manner. Coloured articles which have become stained may be treated, successfully with glycerine, but it should be applied tliicklj’ and care should be taken that enough time is allowed for it to soak well in before washing.
