OPUNAKE

(From Our Own Correspondent.) COMING-OF-AGE PARTY. Mr and Mrs H. Ashworth entertained about 150 guests- in St. Patrick’s Hall to celebrate, the coming of age of their son Leonard. Mrs Ashworfch, dressed in black, received the guests. The cake, made by Mrs Ashworth and tastefully decorated Iby Mr Day, was cut by the honoured guest. ■Toasts were proposed by the following: “Guest of the evening” (Mr W. Burgess—responded to by Mr Leonard Ashworth): “Parents” (Mr J. Hewison —Mr H. Ashworth, the guests singing “for they are jolly good fellows”). Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mr J. Hooker. Extras were given by Messrs Quin, Muschamp and Milne. Items were rendered as- follows: Song, Miss AV. Murray (Ra-liot-u); tap dance, Miss 'G. B-aylis. The guest was the recipient of ■many .useful and handsome gifts.

CONCERT AT GAMP. On Friday evening a concert party under the auspices of the combined churches visited the Kaweora Relief taimp and gave a very enjoyable concert. The performance was given in the spacious dining-room and the mixed items were greatly appreciated. The following was the programme: “Here we are again,” the company; “Ring the Bell, male quartet (the Rev. Duder. Messrs O. FT. Marcroft. T. and P. Hughson). recall “Kentucky”; sketch, Mr Heycock; violin solo. Mrs T. N. Watt; recitation, Miss N. Perrv; vocal solo, Mr C. H. Marcroft; conjuring, Mr R,. McTavish; vocal duet, Misses D. Clouston and B. Johnston; vocal solo, Mr Clarke (of camp); recitation. Mr C. H. Thaver; mixed quartet. “Bells o,f Eve” (Misses Clouston and Johnson. Messrs T. and P. Hugli-son) ;j sketch. Mr "ETeycock. At the conclusion of the programme supper was served -bv the camp boys. Messrs Brown (camp), Tosland (party) and the Rev. Duder made appropriate speeches. TENNIS. During the week-end a team from the Pungarehui Tennis Club visited the Opunake courts and a match was played against the Opunake A team. The Opunake players were successful in winning by 15 sets to 1. Details of the play are (Opunake -players being mentioned first): Ladies’ singles.—Mis.s Chambers heat Miss C. Brophy, 7 —2; ~ Mrs Thomas beat Miss Gilhooly, 7 —4; Mi-ss Trotter beat Miss Gray, 7 —5; Miss Gearv lost to Miss M. Brophy, 5—7.

Fleming. 9—6: Cameron heat B. Bronhv. 9 —5: Burgess- beat W. Priest. 9—G; Donnellv beat J. Priest. 9—7. Men’s doubles.—Thomas, and Cameron beat Fleming and Brooby, 9 —7: Burgess and- Donnelly beat W. and J. Priest. 9 —3. Combined doubles. —Thomas and Miss- Chambers heat Fleming and Miss O. Brophy. 7 —4; Cameron end Airs Thomas beat Brophy and Miss 011hooly. 7 —2: Burgess and Miss Trotter heat W. Priest and Mi-ss Gray, 7 —5: Donnellv and Miss Oear'v heat J. Priest and Miss M. Bronhv. 7 —4.

Afternoon tea was dispensed by the local ladies.
