BERLIN, Feb. 27. In the historic palace in the Wilhelmstrasse, formerly the residence of Bismark and other Chancellors and which President Hindenburg is now temporarily occupying, Mr S. M. Bruce, the Australian Resident Minister at London, to-day returned to Germany the relic of the Australian Navy’s first notable achievement, the Einden’s nameplate. Mr Bruce paid tribute to the courage and chivalry of the Emden’s capte.in and crew and said their deeds must have -stirred the hearts of Germany as they wrung respect' frorii their enemies.
Replying, President Hindenburg said the whole of Germany was grateful to Australia. Germany wished to strengthen the ties of friendship with Australia and that day’s event doubtless would contribute towards that end.
