REQUEST FOR CROQUET LAWNS
RAWER,V, COUNCIL FAVOURIABLE. PORTION OF BOROUGH . YARDS. Favourable consideration was . givenbv the Hawera. Borough Council last, evening to a request from the .Hawera . Croquet Club that a full sized croquet lawn be put down on a; spare piece' ot land between the club’s pavilion andAlbion Street, the conditions to be the > same as those governing the lawns used by the Park Croquet Club. The ground required, it was- stated,' would take under half of the. borough yards and, as three sides were already, fenced, the club would undertake to fence the other. - ■ Mesdames I. Bull and C. H.; Stevens - who waited on the council, explained.•> that one of the lawns in use by .tile , f] n l, was required by the Hawera Bowline- Club and it would be necessary fer - tile Croquet Club to vacate it at an" oarlv date. It was understood that the greater part of the yard was not rased bv the council, and tlltg' laying down; of a lawn would very materially ,nn~, orove the appearance of the section. The club would undertaken the full maintenance of the green and would bo prepared to nay a small rental. Unemnloved labour, if was suggested could‘be -used in the preparation ot the lawn. After a brief discussion the request was -referred to the works committee, with power to act.
