An interested visitor to Hawera yesterday and to-day was Mrs. G. W. Heid of Dunedin. Formerly Mis? laia Strade, Mrs. Reid is a daughter ot the late Mr. C. A Strack, who for many years was headmaster at the Hawera Main School. Mrs. Reid received her primary education at Hawera and to-day visited her old school. Mrs Reid accompanied her husband, who' wa.s a manufacturers’ representative in the New Zealand delegation to the Empire Conference at Ottawa. Mr. Alfred Black, one or the Mahoe-nui-Moknu-Awakino district pioneers, died on Sunday. He was the youngest son of the late William and Jane Black, who were married a year alter their arrival at New Plymouth by the Amelia Thompson in 1841. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Tirrell (Awakino) and Mrs. Attrill (Waitara), also his brothers William (Awakino) and Alexander, well-known residents ot New Plymouth, and his sister, Mrs. Thomas Elliot, of Waitara.
