CORNWELL CUP CONTEST

• SECOND.AND THIRD RACES. (By Telegraph—areas Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 26. The second and third races of the , Cornwell Cup cont est were sailed today and resulted in wins for Auckland and Wellington. The forenoon race was practically a drifting match as there was no wind—only a few puffs off the hills —till near the expiry of the time limit. At the turning buoy where the Auckland boat was in the lead, Wellington’s mainsliect caught round the flagstaff, and Manuka u, 'Christchurch and Porirua i were hung up for over a minute. Auckland instead of jibing for the next mark stood on up the harbour, caught a fluke of wind and increased the lead. Towards the end a light nor’easier came and Auckland increased its advantage and won.

The times were: Auckland Hi. 4m 455., Christchurch Hi. 17m. 365., Lyttel ton. 111. 19m. losec, others untimed.

For the third race there was a light nor’caster and a smooth sea. Wellington was early in the lead and maintained it to the finish, with Lyttelton 80 seconds behind. Christchurch finished almost ten. minutes later and then came Plimmerton, Porirua, Auckland and Manukau.
