RACES AT HAWERA
SUMMER: MEETING ARRANGEMENTS DESCRIPTION BY LOUD SPEAKER . Arrangements have been completed by the Egm-ont Racing Club for descriptions of each event at next week’s summer meeting to be broadcast by loud speaker. Mr J. King, the wellknown sporting announcer of New Plymouth, lias been engaged and by means -of the Loud speaker he will keep patrons informed of the order of the running throughout the races. Bright music will also be broadcast- between events and the public kept generally informed of matters of interest. The Loud speaker equipment will be .supplied by Messrs Liglitbaud and Wann. A novel feature of the Eigmont summer meeting will be the introduction of the patent starter, invented by Messrs Jobson and Good and used on a racecourse under practical conditions for the first time in New Zealand. The starter will be used to despatch the fields in two seven furlong races and great interest attaches to the experiment bv sporting interests and the public.
WORK ON THE TR ACKS
(By “Limited.”) Training operations on the Hawera racecourse yesterday morning were conducted under ideal conditions, both the plough and course proper being in fast condition. The topweight in the Egmout Cup, Awaken, looks well after her racing at Wellington, where she failed to run prominently and was given light exercise. Chief Link is getting into shape and doing his pace work in resolute style Aga Ivh.an, who was given a trip to Trentliain and not raced, strode out, comfortably over seven furlongs on the plough in 1.31. Tenacre, with an advantage in the weights was in front of Calamine at the end of a. mile run in 1.48.. Copey is down to make liis reappearance in the hurdle race on Thursday. Gopey is doing well in his exercise work and was schooled over a round of the hurdles on Wednesday. Ridden by V. Weston, who was having his first trip over the battens, he jumped well. Royal Papa finished half a length in front of Tentcall over six furlongs. Pescliiera and Davistock finished together in a smartly run five, furlongs m 1.3 1-5. . x . R. Brough’s Ruapapa mare sprinted three furlongs in 39sec. On the outside of the course proper ( March Alone went a; good working gallop over six furlongs in 1.23. La, Crown went the last five furlongs of her work in 1.9. The Hunting Song filly Shillong went attractively with Miss Cavendish and Hampden in a sprint over four furlongs covered in olsec. Miss Cavendish and Shillong finished well in front of Hampden.
