Anniversary Day was hot until midafternoon, when a heavy thunderstorm with showers spoiled outdoor pastimes. Randwick race results are: ADRIAN KNOX STAKES. Of £IOOO added. One mile. Roman Spear, 5.5 (Bartlc) .... 1 Dame Moab, 8.5 (Britt) ~ Fame, 8.5 (McCarten) 3 Eleven started. Won by a short Head, two lengths between second and third. Time, 1.384. ANNIVERSARY HANDICAP. Of £BOO added. One mile and a-half. Topical, 7.4 (Knox) 1 ’Trevallion, 7.5 (Britt) 2 'Gippsland, 6.12 (O’Sullivan) .. 3 .Sixteen started. Won by three lengths, a length and a-quarter between second and third. Time, 2.32.
TAKAPUNA PREPARATIONS ELLERSLIE AND TAKANINI. (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, Jan. 26. _ Ideal conditions prevailed at Ellerslie this morning for the final gallops before the Takapuna meeting. The course proper had the poles 20 feet out, the closest they have ever been to the inside rails. No. 1 grass and the tan tracks, were in use. The best efforts of the morning were recorded by Ruling King and .Chief Cook, both engaged at Takapuna on Saturday. On the course proper Ruling King was first to appear, being allotted half a mile, which he completed in 50 3-ssec. He carried a good weight and it was a first-class gallop. Chief Cook, Psychologist and •Schizanthus jumped away together at the five furlongs post, and after running 'two furlongs in 2'ssoc, recorded 1.0 1-5 for the fiill distance. Schizanthus, witli much the best of the weights, was in front throughout, but Chief Cook was going nicely and Psychologist was also finishing on. On the No. 1 grass Brampton and Aegis ran home front the half-mile post in 53 l-ssec, the former finishing in , front. Neil traversed a round in 2.3 2-5 without doing his best at any part. Karangapni showed his customary speed over half a mile, running the distance in 48 4-sscc. He carried a solid weight and did his work impressively.
At Takanini the track was in excellent order, when all the fast galloping was done on the inside grass, the poles being 25 feet out. Principal and Imperial Prince were companions over a mile, Principal finishing a head in [front in 1.48.
Greek Gold and Gold Pocket jumped oil to go half a mile, but after going two furlongs something went wrong with the gear of Gold Pocket, who was then pulled up, and Greek Gold went on to run the half-mile in 52sec.
After getting slightly the worst of the start King Mestor was soon three lengths in front of (Solomon and beat the latter easily over half a mile in 50 3-ssec.
Lord Willonyx was half a length in front of Chief Joy, with Marmorate two lengths away, after galloping five furlongs in L 4 2-5.
