Business premises and homes wereflooded over many square miles and the waters rushed feet deep over the roads. Several briugbs were swept away on the Prince’s highway, the main' road to Victoria, and traffic was cut off. The post office at Hethercote was flooded and the postmaster and his family were forced to race for safety."
