The city coroner returned a verdict of accidental death in the case of Frederick Johnson, who was knocked out in the eighth of a ten-round bout at the Leicliardt stadium on January 10 and later died in hospital. His opponent was Harry Lister, who wore the fern of New Zealand. Both men suffered heavy punishment, but Johnson apparently had his skull fractured.
