OPERA HOUSE. THE “.TRAVEL ROBBERY.” William Powell .and .Kav Francis, A.moriea’s most popular screen team, have, been re-united by Warner Bros, in their first co-starring picture in nearly three years, ‘“Jewel Bobbery, which screens finally to-night at the Opera House, Hawera. “Jewel Bobbery” gives both stars full scope lor the’ talents which brought them to notice as leaders in the field of dramatic comedy. Powell appears at the suave, slyly liuniorous f a man who steals heart's even while husbands look on hopelessly. Miss Francis appears as the beautifully gowned Baroness Tori, toast of Viennese society, sought after by many men, but loving only one, and he mot her husband. The picture affords a variety of unusual situations, played to their utmost by the stars and supporting cast, which ’includes Alan Mowbray, Helen Vinson, Hurdle Albright, Lee Ivohlmar Spencer Charters and many others. A special added attraction to-night and to-morrow will bo the first pic tore of the Southern Cross landing at 'New Plymouth. The plot .takes an ironical twist, however, when the murderer, who escapes conviction for hi; real '.crime, is punished for a crime of which lie is innocent, but of which he is found guilty because of circumstantial evidence. Charles Laughton who appeared as the murderer in both the London and New Y r ork stage versions of the drama, repeats his celebrated role in the screen version. Important roles are filled by Dorothy Peterson as the murderer’s wife ; Mareen lO’iSullivan as his daughter Verre Teasdale as an unscrupulous French milliner, and Bay Milland a; the rich nephew who brings about the * whole tragedy. 1 ‘ Payment Deferred” screens at the Opera House matinee tomorrow and for a two-night seaon.
