The Hawke’s Bay touring team commenced a two-day match . against North Otago on the Waitaki- s school ground this morning. The visitors batted first on a fast wicket and made a poor start, two wickets falling for 12 runs. O’Brien made a useful stand, ■ but eight wickets were down at the luncheon adjournment for 90. The tail wagged vigorously, the last three batsmen putting on 112 runs. The innings closed for 202. North Otago lost the first three batsmen with catches in the slips, the board reading three for 67, when an appeal against the light was upheld at five o’clock.
