At the monthly meeting of the El- ■ tham Red Cross" Society a resolution of sympathy was accorded to Mrs* R,cakes (secretary) in the death of her father, the lata Mr. Tisch, ex Mayor of New Plymouth.

Lady members of the Eltham Scout Committee entertained the Cubs, to a surprise evening in the Scout Hall last night. There were 32 Oubs present under Cub-Leader G.. Martin. A sit down simper was provided. A motion of thanks expressing the appreciation of the boys was adopted with acclamation.

A large and representative gathering of tribes assembled at the unveiling of memorials to Tauke Horomona, chief of the Ngaruahine tribe, and Matoeoterarigi Omahura at the Weriweri cemetery on Sunday, December 4. The officiating ministers were the . Revs. Tahupotiki Haddon (senior superintendent of the Methodist Maori Mission), Hikuroa. Te Maahe (Nukumaru) and R. P. Rakena (Okaiawa). The address was given by Rev. Tahupotiki Haddon, Referring to the earlier life of Tauke, he said that, as a minister, Tauke had rendered invaluable services to the Methodist Church Maori Mission in Taranaki. Tauke, he mentioned, had been present and had performed the crowning of the celebrated Maori king ~Potatau at N gam a wall ia in 1859. Referring to Matoeoterangi, Mr Haddon said ho had stood loyally by him in the work of the church. A choir sang two appropriate hvmns under the baton of Hikuroa. Other speakers were Pouwhareumu Toi and Te Wehi Omaliuru.
