CAR VALUE INFLATED
OVERINSURED BY FRAUD. JUDGE’S VERDICT IN DISPUTE. (By Telegraph—Presa Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 23. That the price of a. car concerned in the dispute had been inflated and overinsured by a fraudulent device of the plaintiff company, acting through its managing director and the Napier agent, was the conclusion reached by Mr Justic MacGregor in his reserved judgment in the case ini which the Tourist Motor Company, Ltd., Hastings, claimed £llOO against the United Insurance Company, Ltd., on a policy covering a nine-seater car which was sold by plaintiff to Leonard Ralston Wyllic in February of 1931, on behalf of* his brother, under a hire-purchase agreement, for £l-500. His Honour was satisfied* that tin cash value of the car when, sold wn' not £ISOO, hut to the* knowledge o r one party was not more- than .£1250. The car was used' as a service car but the run was not .successful, and the promissory notes held bv th r plaintiff fell into arrears* and the ca T was taken back to plaintiff’s* garage a J Hastings, where it was destroyed by fire in October of last year.
