The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Garner, told the newspapers to-day that, in his opinion, the House will pass a Beer Bill at the short session, hut he refrained from any forecast as to the probable time. Mr Garner said also that with a Beer Bill and reductions in Gove rumen t expenses it might be possible to secure a balanced budget without passing other forms of taxation. Asked what percentage beer he favoured, ‘Mr Gainer said, “within the constitution.’’ “About 2.71 or 3 per cent?” lie,was asked. “Some where around that,” Air Garner replied. He gave as a guess that legalised beer for revenue would bring in 250,000,000 or 300,000.000 dollars annually. Meanwhile the White House aides to Air Hoover said the President had neither affirmed 1 nor denied that a veto would be given to' any Beer Bill that Congress enacted. Representative Britten said, he had taken up beer legislation with the President and lie predicted Air Hoover would not veto it.
