I SOUTH TARANAKI MATCHES 1 SATURDAY DIVISION The South Taranaki shield bowling competition was advanced a further stage on Saturday when matches were played at both Hawera greens. Heavy showers early in the afternoon caused a temporary cessation or play in the match at the Park green between Hawera No. 2 and Park. When the rain passed off, however, the rinks continued their games without interruption until the last few heads- which were contested in further showers;. Park won by 95 points to 92. At the adjournment Park had a substantial lead, but Hawera gradually reduced the advantage until the scores, were even. With three games completed and Maslin (Hawera) holding a 31—19 lead over F. A. Quin. Hawera had a one-point lead. On the last head Quin scored four, giving Park a win by three points. Owing to the rain the match between Hawera No. 1 and Pate a on the Hawera Club’s green was. decided on the play of 17 heads. The result was a win for Patea by 75 points to 58.
