POWER RETICULATION

SOUTH TARANAKI BOARD. EXTENSIONS TO .SERVICES. The monthly meeting of the South Taranaki Power Board was held at Hawera last evening, Mr J. 'B. Murdoch presiding over a full attendance of the board. The engineer (Mr T. R. Overton) reported that units generated , in October totalled 166,500, with a maximum demand of 7:2(3 k.w., compared with 285,150 units and 8'37 k.w. in the month last year. The units generated and purchased totalled 312,320, at a maximum demand of 960 k.w., the increases being 541,170 units and-123 k.w. Considerable constructional work had been carried out and six service lines completed. Seventy-nine permits for installations were issued, nine being for new installations, 6S for alterations and additions and two for temporary work. Eighty-eight inspections were made over all classes of work and seven new consumers connected. Local enquiries for supply had been attended to, also extensions at Manutahi. The area from Alton factory to Hurleyville had been canvassed with payable results. A start had been made at Whonuakura. At Hurleyville a group of 22 installations had been formed. The factory directors had authorised 'the board to proceed with the installation of power and light in the factory. •Supply was given to the West Coast Refrigerating Company by the Patea Borough Council during the month and would enable the company to proceed in the change-over of its freezing machinery.

Commenting on the progress of the canvassing in the southern area, the chairman said the position was particularly. satisfactory. Greater progress was .jcing made than anticipated and settlers were urging the board to complete the service to them as soon as possible. The Wairoa Borough Council wrote thanking the board for its donation of £ls 15s towards the earthquake relief fund.

The resignation was received of Miss B. Allom, a. member of the clerical staff.
