Result of Ottawa Agreement BRITISH TREASURY ORDER Exemption Of Dominions FREE STATE FAILS TO BENEFIT RANGE OF PREFERENTIAL TAXES (Blitish Official Wireless.) Received 1.30 p.m. to-day. RUGBY, Nov. 16. The passage into law of the Ottawa Agreement Bill was promptly followed bv a Treasury order which, with ce - tain exceptions, will bring into foice from midnight to-night the duties on foreign goods in the various Ottau a agreements, together with preferential tax on the import of coffee and wine. The order also provides for a continuance of the exception of Elm pi re imports from the IQ per cent, ad valorem dutj- and additional duties imposed under the Import Duties Act. Duties which come into force to n i<dit are those covered by agreements j Willi Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Southern Rhodesia. India and Newfoundland have not yet taken these steps. Ai proposition has also been made for a temporary postponement of the copper duty. The only Dominion which does not participate in the Empire preferences R the Irish Free .State. 'Up to November 5 special duties imposed on imports from the Free State have produced £773,000. The withholding of land annuities by the Free State has so far cost the Exchequer £1,142,419. A provisional agreement has been] reached with ten principal bacon ex- 1 porting countries to reduce British bacon imports, for two months beginning on November 22 by 15.3 per cent. These exporting countries are Denmark, Poland, "Holland, Sweden, Argentine, United States, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania and Est'bonia. The emergency meat restriction agreements with the Argentina, Australia and New Zealand are to be reviewed before the end of next month.
