MANUTAHI.

SCHOOL COMMITTEE (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Manutahi School Committee held its monthly meeting in the school on Monday evening. There were present Messrs 3s. H. Cornwall, R, D. Schwass (secretary), G. Bills and D. M. Jillett (headteacher). In the absence of Mr A. B- Muggeridge, Mr Cornwall was voted to the chair.

It was decided to defer consideration of a letter suggesting a federation of school committees to the next meeting. After some discussion the secretary was instructed l to request the Boys and Girls’ Club- (Wanganui branch) to publish the results of the calf competition in full under the headings of type, condition and record. The purchase of school prizes was eft in the hands of the teachers, the cost to be about the same as last year. As usual a school concert will he I>, at the end of the year in aid of school funds.

A letter was received from the Wanganui Education Board notifying that the school could not be regraded for competition purposes during the current year.

The roll was reported to be 43 with the average attendance 40. The .school will enter a- team in the Patea. district cricket competition. Practically no new material will be required this year. GENERAL. A contractors’ lorry tried total immersion one day last week on the Manutahi beach as the last load for the day was being taken off the beach. Fortunately it was possible to move the lorry by horses before any serious damage resulted. The entrance to the hall has been considerably improved this week by the laying of a culvert in the gateway. This improvement will bei greatly appreciated by people on foot, who have been sensible to avoid both the deep water and the splash of cars in the gateway during the winter months. There was only a fair attendance at the tennis club’s ping-pong evening on Tuesday.' Those present, however, spent a most enjoyable evening. The winners of singles -competitions were Miss Lander and Mr. R. Bloor. Several local wrestling .Enthusiasts made the trip to Wanganui to see the bouts staged on Monday night. PERSONAL. Misses M. Armstrong (Waitotara) and J. Little (Waverley) visited Manutahi last week. Mrs A. E. Scarrow, who has been the guest of Mrs. D. M. Jillett, has returned to Ore Ore. Mrs A. Thomson has returned to Manutahi after a short Holiday. Mr and Mrs L. Hamilton have returned to Manutahi. Mrs T. Porter has returned to Wanganui. Mrs E. M. Southcombe has returned from Waikanae. Miss H. Slater. Eltharn, is the guest of Mrs A. Thomson. Miss Broadley. who spent last week at Normanby, has returned. Mrs W. Barclay has returned - to Meremere.
