The death of Sir Herbert Nield, a well-known figure in public affairs, is reported by cable from London’. He was a K.C., a .member of the Privy Council, and a member of Parliament for .12 years from 1906. Mr Justice Frazer and Messrs W. Cecil Prime and A. L. Monteith left New' Plymouth this morning for Napier to hold a sitting of the Arbitration Court. Countess Beatty, whose death occurred recently, left £167,131 in Britain in addition to property elsewhere, amounting to millions of dollars, from the estate of her father, Mr Marshall Field, reports a London cable. The death occurred in- Gisborne on Tuesday of Mr A. M. Beale, a wellknown business man of the East Coast district and manager of the Waipiro Bay Trading Company, aged 74 years. Mr Beale was a keen cricket enthusiast and was president of the Waiapu Cricket Association.
