A FIRM MARKET. RELIABLE DRAUGHTS IN DEMAND. In many parts cf New Zealand there has been an increasing demand for good, reliable horses of tlie heavy type and this has made a distinct firmness in the market, with prices that are satisfactory to the breeder. A distinct revival in the outlook for heavy horses lias been recorded, not only in New Zealand but also in Australia and in the Old Country. Recently at the horse fairs in South Taranaki this demand has .been strongly in evidence, jAt the Farmers’ Co-operative Society’s last horse fair sales were effected of most of the horses offered. It was proved that, as happens always, animals showing quality and condition, and being proved tractable-, found buyers readily at good figures, but the revival in the demand was evidenced by the fact that even inferior animals were sold at up to £lO and £l2. The top pfice was secured for a line upstanding and useful five-year-old mare on behalf of Mr. A. Symons, Inaha, which was sold for £sl. He-also got £36 10s for a six-year heavy gelding. The same figure, £36 10s, was realised for a five-year-old brown mare sold for Messrs T. Hogan and J. Kerrisjc . ju'rir. At £-10 a six-year-old mare was sold on account of Mr. G. Grantham- and a bay marc for £3O. A good useful team was submitted by Messrs Patterson and Waddell, their own rearing, and these brought from £26 up to £35, the best being secured far a four-year-old mare. A bay mare offered on behalf of Messrs Shewrv Bros., Stratford, fetched .£34. In addition there were a lot of milk carters offered and' these brought from £2O to £3O, the demand being, good:
