THE ANGLING SEASON
GOOD CREELS TAKEN. PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE. Anglers in South Taranaki are still securing good creels of trout from the streams, all of which are exceptionally well stocked with fish as the result of the persistent work of the Hawerai ' Acclimatisation Society Council during previous years. The season opened exceptionally well, with good weather and streams in great order, there having been few freshes or floods. This kept the water favourable for spawning and gave the younger fish every opportunity to grow,. and the season promises to be one of the best. SEASON’S LIBERATIONS. A start was made at last week-end; with liberations for the season, a total of 50,000 being out Out in various streams. The following members carried out the work: Messsr B, C. Gibson and G. G. Larcom, 15,000 for the Waingongoro and Mangatoki; Messrs J. O. Barclay, Evetts and Dickinson, 25,000 for the ‘Waingongoro (above and below the power dam) and the Inaha; Mr Ced. Gardner and assistants. 10,000 for the Mangawhero. All the little fish were thrown fry, swimmers, and in wonderfully strong and vigorous condition. Their condition is a tribute to the efficient work of the hatchery caretaker, Mr W. Miller, and also shows that the stock secured by the society is particularly strong and virile.
