MILLION IN FIVE YEARS
RURAL CREDIT ADVANCES. PRIME MINISTER. CONFIDENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association). DUNEDIN, Oct. 11. A conference of representatives of the Rural Intermediate Credit Board and associations operating in the South Island was held this morning. Mr. John Brown, Canterbury, member of the Central Board, presided. The conference opened with a message of welcome from the Prime Minister, who expressed the hope that the discussions would make for the more efficient and ’satisfactory administration of the system. He was confident that with the improvement pf farming conditions there would be a steady, satisfactory expansion of the operations of the board and the. associations in the southern .portion of the Dominion. The conference placed on record its thanks for the encouraging message from Mr. Forbes and its appreciation of the interest and support he had given to the scheme. The chairman said there were 43 associations in the Dominion, of which gl were in active operation. The board in five years had. lent approximately £1,000,000. The losses had been negligible compared with the large, volume of business transacted.
