SCHOOLS OF MINES

NO CLOSURE THIS YEiAR

PROVISION IN ESTIMATES

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 12. For the current financial year at any rate there is no intention of adopting the National Expenditure Commissions recommendation for the closing of schools of mines in Nov Zealand. The expenditure;, for the year lis contained in the estimates and this shows now a reduction beyond that effected by the Arbitration Court’s general order. The Minister, Mr C. E. Macmillan, said to-day be was a firm believer m tlie value of schools'of mining. They were here to stay and it would be absurd to expect young New Zealanders to go outside to pick up efficient knowledge to enable them to become mine managers.
