MAIN HIGHWAYS BOARD
MOTORISTS’ REPRESENTATION. GREATER PROPORTION DESIRED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Sept. 6. “It is most disappointing to have to report that the Government has again turned a. deaf ear to the requests of organised motorists' for an additional representative on the Main Highways Board,” said the president (Mr W. A. O’Callaghan') at the annual meeting of the North Island Motor Union to-day. “Motorists are now. and have been for some years past, the most heavily taxed "section of the community and are bearing an enormous share Off the cost of national reading, vet, while the whole of the. revenue of the Main Highways Board is derived from motor vehicle owners, they are allowed only one representative on the board. I feel that additional representation is' amatter that the union will continue to have to press for.”
