* TARANAKI MANAGEMENT,
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION.
The management committee of the Taranaki Hockey Association met in Eltham last night. Those present were Messrs Bridger (chairman), C. J. McFadyen (Hawera), K. Pennington (Hawera), V. Betts (Kaponga), R. Irwin (Stratford), L. Byron (Waitara) and. Y. Nairn (Eltham, secretary). The chairman extended his congratulation to the Taranaki team which defeated Whangarei at Auckland: last Saturday by three goals to nil, and urged the team to continue in hard training for the match , with, the. Bush Union Hockey Association representative team for tbe Norden Cup.
It was decided to ask the New Zealand Hockey Association to allow. the match to be played at Wanganui on August 3.
Messrs Bridger and Johnson were appointed co-managers for the Taranaki team and Mr. O. J. McFadyen was appointed referee for the match.
It was decided that the team will travel by cars and will leave Eltham and Hawera at 8 o’clock on Wednesday morning. The Wanganui Association was asked to, undertake the staging of the game and to make all local arrangements in connection with .the visit and entertainment of the two competing teams. A letter was received from the Wellington Association offering to play Taranaki on August 11. It was agreed to accept the offer and to play the match on that date. The Wellington team will be entertained at dinner by the Taranaki Association, and the Eltham club was asked to provide the billeting and the entertainment of the team during the evening. Mr. McDowell, of Stratford, was appointed referee for the match.
A protest was received from the Mangatoki club in connection with its match with Waitara and a complaint that the referee would not allow latearriving members of the Mangatoki team to engage in play until half-time. A letter of explanation was received from the referee in which he stated that the game was 40 minutes late in starting and the Mangatoki players arrived three minutes before half-time. The game had been started with the mutual understanding by the two captains.
The following resolution was carried: “That in view of the complete understanding prior to the commencement of the match regarding conditions of play, etc., the committee cannot see, its ~ way clear to disturb the result of the match.” The secretary reported that some difficulty had arisen with , regard to a postponement of a match between themselves without reference to or permission from the management committee. It was decided, that the match must be played before August 3, but must not he played eu July 31. The < following resolution was also carried: “That the association strongly disapproves of clubs making arrangements between themselves for postponement of club fixtures, and that all clubs be informed that permission must first be obtained from the management committee. , Air. A. R. Gower, manager of the Taranaki team which played: AVhangarei at Auckland, wrote expressing appreciation of the conduct of the team during their tour. Air. O. J- AlcFadyen reported that during his control of the game at Oltakehoi a few days ago some difficulty had occurred, by unauthorised persons interfering with his decisions as; referee and creating considerable trouble at the conclusion of the match. Air. AlcFadyen was asked to make a written report and to name the offenders. The chairman remarked that, he would! not hesitate to deal with persons, no matter who they were, who interfered with any game under the jurisdiction of the association Ihis also applied to any ground where unruly conduct was permitted. . A general meeting of the association is to be held at Eltham on August 29.
