BOMB AT ST. BEE’S SCHOOL
DISMISSAL OF CHARGES. OLD BOYS ACQUITTED. (United Tress Electric Telt’tfrap'J right.) LONDON, July 26. Summonses were dismissed against two brothers, Maurice and Basil Davenport, old boys of tho school, whom the Mayor of St. Beefs, Mr MacClesfield, charged with placing an explosive under a platform at St. Bee’s School on June 20.
Explosive exports on June 20 examined an infernal machine which two boys found on the platform after Lord Lloyd, former High Commissioner for Egypt, had distributed prizes at St. Bee’s School, Cumberland. It was at first thought to be an ill-timed practical joke, but it was later believed it may have been an attempt on Dot'd Lloyd's life. The mechanism of the machine, which was controlled by clockwork, was fitted with a 12-hour dial, and was set for 3.30. at which hour Lord Lloyd was distributing f prizes., The police immediately took j possession of the machine. The headmaster, Mr. A. Bell, said the machine | seepied too well made to be a fake.
