COARSE SKIN
WRINKLED FROM EXPOSURE.
EFFECT OF BAD WEATHER
Cold winds and bad weather have a very coarsening effect ujion the skin unless some' precautionary measures are taken. After motoring for some time in very cold weather the skin, even on very young women, is otten made harsh and wrinkled, and the texture will be coarsened unless cold cream or lanoline are applied immediately. The white of an egg is not only nourishing, but can be used to great advantage in wrinkles of recent appearance. hirst saturate a strip of gauze in the white of an egg, then lay the gauze over the skin, placing it on and smoothing it out against the direction of the wrinkles. Hold it in place until it is dry and let it remain qn, if possible, for an hour or so. Or, if you prefer, the gauze may bo applied at night before retiring and left on until morning. To remove the gauze, simply dampen it w_l.h cold water, and you will find that it can be taken off without any trouble. A useful lotion can be made up at home from the following recipe: Ctmpor water 50z.; tannic acid, 10 grains; witch-hazel, 3oz. To make camphor water, dissolve one quarter ounce ( of powdered camphor in soz. of distilled water or rose water. This lotion will be found very useful, too, for closing up coarse pores. Another lotion consists of orange-flower water, 2 pz • zinc sulphorcarbolate, 30 grains; eau-de-Cologne, 4 drams; glycerine, 2 drams; tincture of cochineal, 1 diam; and rose water sufficient to make the solution up to 6oz. If the skin is definitely chaped by going out in cold weather, the face must not on any account be washed with soap and w'ater before facing the elements. Soap and water cleansings temporarily remove the oil from the surface of the skin, leaving it without its natural protection. If vou are a devotees of soap and water, you must use it only at night before • oing to bed. In the morning dash < old wuur fin the face, then pat it drv and massage a.little cold cream into the .skin, removing it with a soft cleansing tissue after a minute or two. TJSE CAMPHOR ICE.
Camphor ice proves a speedy and satisfactory remedy for chapping caused by exposure. Cleanup the ‘kin with cream, after removing it, smooth a generous amount of camphor ire over the skin, letting it remain on scneial hours. A little camphor ice rubbed all over the Lips before applying lipstick prevents chapping. Most of the glycerine and rose water, as well as the almond and honey preparations, are beneficial in the treatment of clm.pja d skin.
