The House of Commons last night on the report stage of the Finance Bill rejected by 301 votes to 71 an amendment for a reduction of the beer duty which, it was represented, was now 15 times as high as in 1914. The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Neville Chamberlain) pointed out that a a*ebenue of £10,000,000 would be involved in the proposed reduction.
