Twenty-eight members of the Taranaki Alpine Club, half of whom were girls, made an ascent of Mt. Elgmont yesterday, the summit 'being reached in about five hours. A shark nine feet long and about 300 lb. in weight was caught on a sc-hnapper line from the end of the Newton King wharf, New Plymouth, yesterday. The fisherman played his catch for well over an hour before sighting it, but finally drew it alongside tlie wharf, where the monster was jagged and hauled up by a rope. It is 'believed to bo of* the grey nurse variety.

The National Expenditure Adjustment Bill will ibe fought over again at a “Mode Parliament” to be held by the Hawera Debating Society in the Law Society’s library, beginning at 8 o’clock sharp this evening. Mi: E. Dixon will occupy the chair as “Speaker” and “Government” and “Opposition” will /he provided by picked sides drawn from the society.

Many inquiries have been received by Mr. J. Horton, manager of the Hawera Opera House regarding the probable date of the production of another entertainment on the lines of the “Micky Mouse” pantomime which was so successfully presented by a company of juveniles and adults under his direction ealier this year. Mr. Horton has promised to organise another show, but the date is uncertain. He is at present in touch with Sydney in an endeavour to secure suitable material, but he states that it will be some months yet before he will be calling for amateur performers to assist.
