The maritime unions are organising opposition to the Matson. .Line’s entry into Australian trade, while Australian ships are excluded from the -American coastal trade. The general secretary (Mr Raeburn) of the Seamen’s Union states that New Zealand seamen are seeking Australian co-operation in the matter to avert the suggested serious consequences of the Matson Line competition with the Union Steampship Company.
