A SPARE-TIME OCCUPATION
FLIGHT IN MANAWATU
PALMERSTON N., March 29. A small' singlertsoatqr aeroplane, powered by a twin-cylinder aero engine, has been built by Mr. Robin Chrystall. of Foxton, who made a successful flight in it • from Foxton to the Manawatu Heads yesterday afternoon.
Hr. Chrystall, who is 21 years of age, built the plane in his spare time. He procured the essential .parts from America. The machine has an overall length of 17 feet and a wing soread of approximately 25 feet. The engine develops 28 horse-power. "The plane was built in a small shed on Mr. M. Ei. Perreau’s farm and work was carried out secretly by Mr. Chrystall. It is his intention to manufacture a lighter propeller and make, further improvements to the machine. When he took the plane off the ground yesterday Mr. Chrystall had only five hours’ flying time to liis credit and the flight in his own machine was his first solo attempt.—“ Dominion” Service.
