In furtherance, of its campaign for circuit funds the Kaponga Alethodist Ladies’ Guild conducted a, street stall on Friday, when excellent business- was done.. A. trail of pennies was carried out in connection with the day’s effort, Alesdamesi Cook ad Guy being in charge of this department which realised the very satisfactory sum of £1 9s. The stall itself was- conducted by Alesdames Powell and Lolly and a good supply of vegetables, home cooking and preserves was disposed' of. In connection with) the trail of pennies the ladies expressed pleasure at the ready manner in which gifts for this were forthcoming and desire to thank all those who so"williiigly. contributed to the success of Hie venture. GENERAL.

The rain experienced here during the week-end was responsible for a good growth of mushrooms and plentiful quantities were gathered by residents over the week-end'. At the annual meeting! of the Kaponga. Rifle Club last Thursday Air A. Elgar, of Opunake, was elected a member of Hie club,. Mr Algal- was a member of the club. Air Elgar was a- meinhe was a resident in the district. Entries are coming in freely for the forthcoming St. Mark’s seventh annual flower and produce show, which will be held in the local Town Hall on Friday evening next. There are at present 20 registered unemployed workers on the list at Kaponga, the majority of whom are working, under the jurisdiction of the Kaponga Town Board. The board is placing the men on the “over the fence” on fan ns wherever possible. The allocation of funds was only half enough again this week and all workers. were reduced one day. Sunday evening’s broadcast from 2YA of the, Hawera Jubilee oratoria “The Creation” was well received here. The singing and work of the orchestra were both greatly enjoyed. CONVENT PICNIC.

TJie annual plcnfe of the Kaponga Convent School was held at on Monday. Fine weather prevailed throughout the day and a most enjoyable time was spent by the children, of whom a. large number made the journey. The children were conveyed to the beach by a motor lorry and private cars. Races run during, the afternoon added much to the interest of the day’s outing, the results being: Boys under 6.—Joseph Bolger 1, Charlie Candy 2, Ashley Brown 3. The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Kaponga Oddfellows’ Lodge was held in the lodge rooms on Alonday evening, when N.G. Bro. A. Gilbert presided over an attendance of 25 members.

Correspondence was received- from the secretary of the Friendly Societies’ Council, Hawera, pointing out the position that had arisen between the council and the Hawera Hospital Board and asking members to consider how they wished their delegate to vote on the two questions set forth in the letter: This entailed a- lengthy discussion and the lodge delegate, Bro. A. Melville, was instruetd how to vote on behalf of the lodge on the question. An application was received through the secretary of the Hawera branch asking the help of some members of the Kaponga Lodge to assist in the tableau to be staged in connection with the lodge representation at the Hawera Jubilee celebrations. Some eight to ten members signified their willingness to attend the function and assist the Hawera Lodge as requested. The election of officers for the ensuing half-year, for which there was keen competition, resulted as follows: N. Sister Muriel Evans; R.S.N.G., Bro. L. Brewer; L.S.N.G., Bro. R. Gwyn; V.G., Bro. E. W. Snowdon; R.S.V.G., Bro. C. Harding; L.S.V.G., Bro. N. Young; Warden, Sister H. Cleaver; Guardian, Bro. L. Gilbert; O. Bro. L. Schicker; E.S., Bro. F. A. R.odie; conductors, Bros A. Burt and C. W. N. Rowe.

It was decided that Bro. A. Burt, hawing completed his term of office in the G.M.’s chair, his name be placed on the merit hoard and he he presented with the diploma.

The N.G. intimated that most- members were aware that the district officers would he visiting the lodge for the next fortnightly meeting and it was hoped that all members present would endeavour to bring a member themselves to this meeting. The ritual competition would take place at this meeting under the aegis of the visiting district officers, who would also instal the newly-elected officers. In connection with their visit the financial secretary and the sister members' of the lodge were appointed a committee to arrange the usual hospitality.

PERSONAL And general. Messrs. A. E. Gallagher and Chas. Stewart left by ear on Monday on an extended motor tour of the W est Coast and .South districts of the south island. Mrs. J. P'ascoe is at present visiting AVa nganui and is expected home again this week-end. The TaraUaki Education Board has approved of the scholars of the Kaponga state school being granted two half days this week in order that the pupils may attend the jubilee celebrations in Hawera. One rink from the fvaponga Bowling Club has already entered for the Hawera Jubilee tourney and it is hoped that others will he, able to go. An invitation was also received from the Eltham Club to send a. rink to play against, the South Auckland touring team, bnt it was not found possible to send a rink along. Two rinks will represent the local Kaponga club at the Lambic Memorial Shield tournament at Opunake.
