PUPILS WORK DISPLAYED

CHRISTMAS TREE AND PARTY

To mark the closing of the school year at Normauby, a garden party was 1,..’.,; j„ the school grounds on Thursday. when parents a. kl friends were given on opportunity of reviewing tne rvork done by the scholars during the year.

Mr. T. Taylor, headmaster, weleomed the large attendance of the public and extended thanks for the readj Response made to the appeal for funds, that had mane the function possible. The chairman of the school - committee, Mr. E. T. Peach, in formally declaring tne lunctiou open, commented on the excellence of the year’s work, lie took the opportunity of presenting Miss K. M. Syrians and Miss 1. Cannaway to the gathering and announced ' that Mr. Alartin-Livcnsen would be severing his connection with the school, a fact to be regretted by. all. Mr. Peach then presented the certificates gained by pupils for full attendance as follows: Infants, Lena Jurd, Betty Duggan, Gladys Duggan, Erie Evans. Standard 1., V. Evans, A. Tippett, Esmc Kyte, Rose Glentworth. Standard 3, P. Ganc, F. Evans, R. Hughes, Doreen Hurliman, Nancy Frei. 'Standard 4, N. Bryant, E. Taylor, L. Jurd, J. Snook, Margaret Cowie, Eileen Harrison. Form 1., R. Magill, A. Hurliman, R.ubina Shearer. Form 11., S, Kennedy, A. Powell, J. Bryant, H. Tippett, Isobel Preston and Florence Ogle. Form 111.. J. Bennett. The following proficiency certificates were also presented: James Bryant, Harold Tippett, Joan Me Ewan, Jean AlcAsey, Isotoel Preston, Dora Slinger. Mr. Peach stressed the value to the scholars of the proficiency certificates from a commercial view point, stating that their possession was necessary to attain admission to many Government positions as well as private spheres. While the children were massed in front of the school, “Santa Claus’’ arrived and was greeted enthusiastically. He invited the children into the school where a Christmas tree was displayed. heavily laden with toys and good things. Every child was the recipient of a present, even the little ones whose school days are vet to commence.

The public then spread throughout the classroom where the year’s work was displayed and the school orchestra under the baton of Air. H. Reid, rendered an enjoyable programme of music lee creams and afternoon tea was dispensed and an enjoyable period was spent on the lawn. A stall under the auspices of the school Junior Red •Cross did good business netting over £(> to their funds.
