OBITUARY

ME. J. W. YEARBURY. An old and highly-respected citizen of Hawera, Mr James William Yearbury, passed away yesterday at his home in Eegent Street at the age of 69 years, after a short illness. The late Mr Yearbury was born in Adelaide, South Australia, and came to Taranaki 30 years ago, settling in liawera, where he carried on business as a bootmaker. He was a devoted supporter of the Methodist Church and the Salvation Army, and in both did valuable work, especially among the young people. He was captain of the Salvation Army Band for a year, and had also been closely associated with the Bechabites’ Lodge and for some years was a member of the Hawera School Committee. Deceased leaves a widow and family of three daughters and three sons—Mrs Smith (Taumarunui), Mrs J. Gallagher (Auckland). Mrs Pennington (AucTdand), and Messrs James (Auckland), William (Waitara), and Edward (Hawera). The eldest son, George, was killed at the Somme in October, 1917. He also has two brothers, Joseph (Henderson) and George (Auckland) and one. sister resident at the Bay of Islands. The funeral will take place on Thursday afternoon at 1.30 o’clock from his late residence. MBS INI A TE RANGI. Mrs Inia to Eangi (Te Moreliu). whose death occurred at Parewanui last week, was a member _of the ancient Tane-Nui-a Rangi tribe, and of the sub-tribes Ngati Mairehau and Ngati Te Rangi Te Paia. Her ancestors claim to have corne out on the two historical canoes Tainui and Kurahaupo, from Hawaiki. Mrs Inia was born at Tiakitahuna (“the landing beach”), near the mouth of the Manawatu River, about 78 years ago, and 53 years ago she married Te Rangi, who survives her, as do one son, Mr Akuhata Akuira, of Rangiotu, and a daughter Mrs Paanga TCawaria, better known in Wanganui and in the Bulls district as Mrs “Jimmy” Governor. There are also 14 grandchildren and nine grent-grand-dren. The well-known Palmerston North Rugby player, Rangi Akuira, is a prandson.

'Flio late Mrs Te Rangi was of a quiet and hospitable disposition, and was highly esteemed by both Maoris and pakehas.
