MANCHURIAN SITUATION
TROUBLE STILL IMMINENT JAPANESE PREPARE OFFENSIVE CHINESE! STUDENTS DEMAND WAR (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 12 noon (to-day. SHANGHAI, Dec. 9. Urgent, telegrams have been received at Nanking stating that the Japanese are preparing an offensive at Ghinchow, flie provisional seat of the Manchurian 'Government and the last stronghold of the Chinese three eastern provinces. Severe cold is preventing operations in the Heiulung Kiang area and this is believed to be responsible for the decision to attack Chincliow.
An urgent conference has been called at Nanking of Shanghai's leading financiers and industrial magnates to discuss the general strike threat of the sudents, who are virtually controlling the capital. 'The students are establishing a garrison headquarters in defiance of authority and continue to demand war, the abolition of direct negotiations with Japan, the dismissal of Mr Wellington Koo, and the departure to Manchuria of President ‘Chiang Kai Shek to change the Government's foreign policy.
