OBITUARY

MR G. WOODS, MANGATOKI. Regret at the death of Air George Woods and sympathy with his widow were expressed by the directors of the Mangatoki Dairy Company at a meeting held yesterday. The hoard adjourned for half an hour out of respect to the memory of the late general manager of the company after passing a resolution placing on record appreciation of his loyal and efficient services. “In the 2-1 years he occupied the position,”- stated the minute, “he placed the company before every other consideration and was unsparing in his efforts to advance the interests of his employers and to increase the efficiency" of his staff. The directors feel that his death has caused a severe loss, not only to the Mangatoki Dairy Company, but to the industry generally.” The board also directed that a letter of sympathy be sent to Airs AVoods. The late Air George AVoods, who was 52 years of age, was born in England and" learnt cheesemaking on his father’s farm there. After a long apprenticeship to the work in England and New Zealand he made a Dominionwide name as a cheesemaker at. the Kuku factory, Alanawatu, where he won the Lonsdale Cup three years in succession and the Dominion cheesemaking championship, the valuable trophy eventually becoming his own oroperty. After seven years at Kuku he was engaged by the Ngaere Company, where he served for five years as manager, and from there he went to Mangatoki. His death occurred last week in a private hospital at Auckland, where lie had gone for treatment, and the funeral took place at Dannevirke last Friday. Among those from Taranaki who attended the funeral were Alessrs R. Free (chairman of Alangatoki Company). H. E. Taylor (chairman Ngaere Company), L. Taylor (manager, Lowgarth), J. Paterson (manager, Ngaere). A. McKenzie (Dairy Division, Hawera). Mr John Brown, chairman of the Kuku Company, was one of a large number of mourners.
