.—— s SUCCESS OF WELLINGTON RIDER. AUCKLAND, Dec. 6. The third season of broadsiding commenced at the Western Springs speedway last night. The Yv'ellington champion, W. Kilmister, twice defeated A. Mattson, .Auckland and Dominion champion, in match races, on each occasion taking the lead at the first bend. He also won the Big Nine championship. Results are :

Open handicap.—F. Day (Norton), S.sec, 1; W. Herbert (Matt-Rudge), 3sec, 2. Time, lmin 29sec.

Challenge races.—First race: W. Kilmister (Wellington) 1, A. Mattson (Auckland) 2. Time, lmin 19sec, a track record for match events. Second race: W. Kilmister 1, A. Mattson 2. Time, lmin 20sec. Big Nine Championship.—W. 'Kilmister 1, A. Mattson 2. Time, lmin 21 2-ssec.
