THIEVES’ POLITENESS

BOBBERS AND VICTIMS. CHAMPAGNE AT PARTING. That burglary may be combined with the observance of social amenities has been proved by three men who have ransacked a villa at Vitry in France. This was occupied by two young men who were in the habit of spending some of their evening in the dancing places in the Rue de Lappe. On their last visit to one of these places the young men made the acquaintance of two other young men, to whom, in a moment of confidence, they gave their address. They had motored back to their villa and 'were preparing to' retire when they were summoned to the door. Here they found their two new men acquaintances with a third, and invited the trio to enter. Champagne was served all round, but then the stranger covered the tenants of the villa with a revolver and warned them not to stir, while his two companions hound them and made them sit on a couch. The trio then announced that they had come out to Vitry not on a pleasure party but strictly on business. While the man with the revolver kept the tenants covered, his two associates spent three hours in ransacking the whole place. They carefully piled their booty, into a taxi-cab in which thev had arrived and then un--1 bound their hosts, with whom they insisted on sharing a couple of bottles of champagne by way of a farewell.
