SYDNEY WOOL SALES'. JAPS’ DEMAND INCREASES SYDNEY. Sept. 2. A total of 10.166 bales of wool was offered to-day. 7572 ’being sold at auction. also 6SOS privately. The market w«.s firm at the former levels of the week, with increased demand by the Japanese. Faulty lilies were irregular and hard to quit. Greas v Merino made to 1 2:fd.
j SKINS AND HTDES. * STRATFORD SALE. i | The monthly sale of sheepskins and | hides was held at Stratford on Tuesj day. the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd., reports. The market, in sympathy with the overseas and Wellington markets, showed a further decline. Dry sheepskins and salted skins were easier. Hides were in good demand. Buyers were fairly well represented. The catalogue comprised 1002- sheepskins, 620 hides and 11 packages of tallow. ' All wool is being held Over until later in the season. Woollen 'Company shows a loss has been made on the year's operations of £36,272. after providing £SOOO for depreciation and £2700 for bad and doubtful debts. The directors attribute the bad result of the year to the worldwide fall in prices of raw products, the low prices for woollen goods and the loss sustained through the Hawke’s Bay earthquake. The deficiency is being made good h.Y transferring from the general reserve £20.000. from the land and income tax fund £10,500, an<d from the debts reserve £2700. The preference dividend will absorb £39-11, leaving £355 to be carried forward,
