LIBEL ACTION SUCCEEDS
WOMAN CLERK’S SUIT. AWARDED £IOO DAMAGES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., Aug. C. The hearing has concluded in the Supreme Court of a case wherein Florence Margaret Baker, widow, clerk to the Dannevirke County Council, claimed £SOO for alleged libel from Osgood and Drury, motor cycle importers, and Stanley Osgood, director of the firm, as the outcome of a letter written by Osgood to the chairman ol the county council. Mr. Justice Reed said it was clear that statements in the letter were libellous. It was also clear that they were entirely untrue, as defendant Osgood had admitted in the box. As the statements in the letter had not been widespread and those who hoard them exonerated plaintiff. His Honour held it was not a ease tor heavy damages. Judgment was given for £SO against both defendants.
