DAMAGE BY LIGHTNING SEVERAL DEATHS CAUSED TORRENTIAL RAIN IN ENGLAND. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 2 p.m., to-day. LONDON, Aug. 5. Terrific thunderstorms, causing; widespread damage in Britain, France and Belgium, raged all afternoon over L-on-donT accompanied by torrential ram and thunder claps. Train tunnels were flooded and all traffic from Jviiirr Cross station weie held up and tram"tracks in the various suburbs flooded. Several people were struck bv ligbtnincr. A fisherman using a metal rod was struck and was rent in twain. Lightning set fire to a tram car m Southampton and a fireball crashed through a hotel roof. A tent in which ten North African soldiers were sheltering at La,on, northern France, was struck by liglitnine and eight were killed. Four farm labourers in the Blois district were killed and the farm buildings set on fire, killing cattle.
