UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF

,SACRED CONCERT AT HAWERA. A sacred, concert will be presented at the Hawera Opera House to-morrow evening to assist the fund for the relief of distress caused by unemployment. The New Zealand Maori Choir and Entertainers, who have been appearing at the recent radio exhibition, will combine with the Hawera Municipal Band to provide the programme, which will include violin and vocal solos, quartets and steel guitar items. The use of the Opera House lias been granted free of charge for the occasion, and all other services have also been given gratuitously. The whole of the proceeds will he handed to the committee of the Women’s National Reserve for distribution. A silver collection will be taken.

Ramsay ALacDonald announced in the House of Commons that a motion was to be introduced on Monday increasing the borrowing powers of the unemployment insurance fund from £90,000,000 to £115,000,000.
