BASKETBALL AND RUGBY
FOUR. SCHOOLS IN CONTEST. 1 OHANGAI AND AIEREAIERE WINNERS. It was an excellent idea that was originated last year for the schools ol Ohangai, AVhakamara, Aleremere and Alokoia, in order to encourage school sport, when Air and Airs G. W. AVilliams and the committees of the four schools donated cups for Rugby and for basketball. In 1930 the schools exchanged visits during the season and so decided the supremacy in the two sports. This year an improved scheme was adopted, the competition being left to a one-day tourney, held yesterday at Alokoia. when each team played the other, scoring points for wins or a draw. Aleremere won the AVilliams Cup for Rugby, defeating the holders, Ohangai, while the latter school upheld its honours at basketball and held the trophy for that sport. The executive body consisted of the chairman of each school committee. Messrs G. AV. Williams (chairman), J. Dobson, P. Shealian, N. Leo, AV. J. Alarsh, with Air J. AV. Buchanan as lion. secretary. The arrangements made were most efficient and resulted in all events being dispatched without any delay. The referees were Alisses Thomson and George, of the Hawera High School (basketball) and Afessrs A. E. Spratt. and E. Murphy (Rugby). Their help was duly acknowledged by a hearty vote of thanks at the * conclusion of the tournev.
The school colours; were: Alokoia. black and gold; Ohangai. green and white; Aleremere, black and white; Whakamara, red and black
