CAR BLOWN FROM ROAD
GALE IN MAXAWATU. MAN AND WIFE INJURED. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., June 18. Through their motor-ear being blown off the road by a high wind, Mr. and Mrs. Cooksley had an unenviable experience. The accident happened near the intersection of River Bank Road and the old Wellington Road, Fitzherbert. Mr. Cooksley had negotiated a rightangle bend safely, but, caught by the gale a few chains on the Palmerston North side of the turn, lie found it impossible to keep the oar on the road, as the wind was coming down the gully with great force. The car went over the side of tne road into the creek, Mrs. Cooksley being thrown into the windscreen and receiving serious cuts on the face, which involved subsequent surgical attention. She was removed to the hospital where an examination revealed the probability of a bi'oken leg also. Mr. Cooksley had a knee injured. The ear was damaged extensively.
