‘‘l understand that it is the practice of some farmers to be careless as to whether water gets in their factory milk or not. Is that a fact?” asked counsel of a farmer witness in a civil case in the Hawera Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Witness: Yes; that is so.
At the weekly luncheon of the Hawera Rotary Club, held to-day, the Rev. H. Whitby-James gave au address on “Toe H.” The speaker gave some very interesting information in regard to the spread of the movement in New Zealand and the work that was actually being done in this country. The address evidently made able impression on the auditors and no doubt will be helpful to those who have already taken the initial steps to establish the ‘’organisation in Hawera. The speaker was thanked for his “inspiring and practical-address.”
Private advice received from St. Patrick’s College states that great interest is being taken in the football match to he played in Hawera on Saturday. July 4, against New Plymouth High School. Eighteen players will be selected on the 28th inst. and the team will arrive in Hawera on Friday, July 3. and leave on the following Monday. The Mt. Egmont Alpine dub’s weekend “at-home” at Dawson Falls when the Mt. Egmont Alpine Club will welcome visitors from other clubs has drawn “acceptances” from a large number of members of other clubs from other districts. There will be in all 139 present made up as follows: 65 from the Taranaki Alpine Club, 12 from the Rluapehu Ski Club and two from Stratford Mountain Club. In addition t.o> 60 members of the Mt. Egmont Club. A dinner and social evening at the Hostel have been a.r- ---* ranged for Saturday and various trips on the following day.
