HASTINGS CENSUS
A GROWING POPULATION. INCREASED PERCENTAGE OF AIALES. (By Telegraph—l'ress Association.) HASTINGS, Juno 9. The Hastings borough census completed this morning -shows a population of 12,713. including Alaoris, which is an increase of 2.565 over the 1921 census, or a percentage increase oi 15.27 as against 12.68 in the previous-interc-ensal period. The census was rejommended by the Government to Hastings and Napier for the apparent purpose of finding out tiie effects oi the earthquake on the movement ol population. Napier exercised its ipinion against the taking of tilt .■ensus. The population of that town is much in doubt, but is commonly believed to be adversely affected by the •arthqviake. The greatest change has been an increase of males over the age of 21. which rose from 2,835 to 4,218, an increase of 48.78 per cent. .Male minors increased by 299, while female adults increased from 3,085 to 3,775. an increase of 22.36 per cent. Alaoris living in the borough at last census numbered 59, but were not separately counted this year.
